Mechanism of Action
Febuxostat is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of uric acid produced by the body. Uric acid buildup can lead to gout or kidney stones.
Uses
Febuxostat is used to treat gout and prevent acute gout attacks. It is also used for the treatment of hyperuricemia (excess of uric acid in the blood) in patients with tumor lysis syndrome.
